Human Resources Policy Revisions

Effective June 27, 2010 changes will be made to three campus human resources policies.  These changes are part of the campus's objective to be fiscally conservative as well as respond to the need for increased flexibility in scheduling work hours, especially for part-time staff.  The changes are as follows:

Shift Differential:

Additional Resource:

Indiana University Policy Manual

As of June 27 only appointed support and service staff employees will be eligible for shift differential.  Hourly, PERF hourly, student hourly, and work-study student employees will not be eligible for the shift differential premium.

In addition, for appointed support and service staff the minimum number of consecutive hours that must be worked to be eligible for shift differential will increase from four to six hours.

  • Shift differential is paid for hours worked between 3:00 p.m. and 8:00 a.m. provided that a minimum of six consecutive hours is worked during the designated shift differential period.
  • Except as provided below, shift differential is not paid if the scheduled shift is less than six hours.
  • A staff member who is scheduled, called back, or called in to work outside the normal daily work schedule and requires an additional trip to and from work outside the normal workday is eligible for shift differential for time worked between 3:00 p.m. and 8:00 a.m. regardless of the length of time worked.

Sunday Premium:
Also as of June 27 only appointed support and service staff employees will be eligible for Sunday premium pay for hours worked on Sunday.  Hourly, PERF hourly, student hourly, and work study student employees will not be eligible for Sunday premium.

Campus Holiday:
In 2011 the Campus Holiday will become a floating holiday to be consistent with other IU campuses.  In order to be eligible for the Campus Holiday, appointed staff employees must be in active or partial-leave status on March 1, 2011 when the Campus Holiday is accrued.  The Campus Holiday may be taken on a day of the employee's choice subject to advance scheduling and approval by the supervisor.  If the Campus Holiday is not used by the end of the following calendar year, it is lost.  Support and service staff who work on Good Friday (which has traditionally been IUPUI's designated Campus Holiday) will not receive Holiday Incentive Pay.
